Two new comers were elected to Steamboat Springs City Council on Tuesday, with John Agosta winning in the District Three race and Dave Barnes rising above a crowded field vying for the at-large seat, according to results from the Routt County Clerk and Recorder’s Office.

In District One, current Council President Gail Garey was able to outlast local business owner Kelly Phillips on Tuesday, with the latest vote totals showing Garey with a roughly 600 vote edge. In District Two, current Council member Steve Muntean was reelected after running his race unopposed.

The closest race of the night was between Agosta and challenger David Box, who fell just 203 votes shy of Agosta, according to the latest vote totals. Agosta had 2,477 votes to Box’s 2,274.

Turning to the crowded at-large race, Barnes held a commanding lead according to the latest vote totals, leading the second-highest voter getter Loryn Duke by nearly 600 votes. Barnes total was 1,977 votes to Duke’s 1,378.

Barnes’ victory means the end of Council member Joella West’s run on City Council, who received 796 votes. Robbie Shine rounded out the candidates still running in the race with 478 votes, fourth most.

Three more candidates that appeared on the ballot, but had announced they dropped out of the race — Walter Magill, Kim Haggarty and Blythe Casner — received a total of 401 votes collectively. Each had endorsed Barnes.
