The Crosho Fire burning west of Phippsburg triggered more evacuation orders on Thursday, with residents in three zones now being told to leave, according to an update from Routt County just before 4 p.m.

The fire was estimated to be roughly 1,700 acres in size on Wednesday evening, before an active night of burning that caused a glow that could be seen as far away as Stagecoach Reservoir.

The newly evacuated area, Zone 2, is north of Zones 3 and 4, each of which received their evacuation orders on Wednesday. In addition to the new evacuation order, Zones 5, 7, 8 and 9 are now in pre-evacuation.

The Crosho Fire started on Monday afternoon, immediately adjacent to the north side of Crosho Lake. The cause of the fire is currently unknown, and there is no containment.

Since the fire’s start, crews have used a significant number of aircraft to control the blaze from the sky, efforts that continue on Thursday. There are as many as 200 firefighters and support staff working the fire, with ground crews primarily focused on structure protection.

This story will be updated as information becomes available.
